DUPONT - The Dupont VFW Post 4909 Christmas party will take place Dec. 10 at the Post Home. DURYEA - Pet Services by Denise will hold a people and pet shopping spree fund-raiser from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at its location, 113 Foote Ave. All proceeds will benefit Tracey's Hope Hospice Care Program for Pets and the local reptile rescue and adoption program.

Since several Marines are deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, they need a helping hand. A few men from the VFW in Duryea have offered to make this years campaign a success.

FORTY FORT - Candy's Place, a cancer resource center has moved its gentle yoga classes to Candy's Place new home at 190 Welles St., Suite 120 beginning today. The time will remain the same 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Classes for patients currently in treatment are free. A doctor's note is needed. Cost for 65 and older is $5 per class and all others is $7 per class. This class is also open to survivors and caregivers for the same fees. For more information call 208-4673.

HANOVER TWP. - Newtown Auxiliary and Fire Co. will hold a Christmas party from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at the firehouse on Raymond Drive in the Newtown section. Santa Claus will arrive on a firetruck.

Each child will get a picture taken with Santa and receive a present. Registration for the party is required by Thursday. Children up to age 10 are eligible to attend.

HAZLETON - Ruth Gonzalez from the Governor's Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center will be available to help individuals with veterans' issues from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Hazleton CareerLink, 75 N. Laurel St.

PITTSTON - The Greater Pittston Area Chapter 1723, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, NARFE, will have its December luncheon at noon Dec. 8 at the Dupont VFW. Deadline for reservations is Monday.

Donated gifts for the 50/50 drawings are optional. Articles for the armed forces will be collected. Suggestions are global phone calling cards, new DVDs, CD players, puzzles, word games, crossword books, disposable cameras, new knit hats and gloves, new T-shirts, battery operated fans, and decks of cards.

Only commercially packaged food items will be accepted such as powdered hot and cold drinks, ready to eat chicken and tuna salad packs, individually packaged snacks, trail mix, cookies, candy, gum, power bars, beef jerky, Girl Scout cookies, ramen, and small jars of peanut butter.

WARRIOR RUN - The Twin Borough Lions Club will have its annual children's Christmas party at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Warrior Run Fire Hall. Ages 10 and under who reside in Sugar Notch or Warrior Run are invited. Children must be pre-registered at Top Notch Pizza, Derffs Pizza, with any Lions Club member, or with their CCD teacher by Dec. 8.

WILKES-BARRE - Volunteers from the Commission on Economic Opportunity and First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre prepared and distributed more than 425 Thanksgiving dinner meals to shut-ins and elderly throughout the Wyoming Valley.

In addition, the CEO Thanksgiving Project aided 5,752 households this year, providing each with a turkey and all the side dishes for a traditional holiday meal.
